The Choir of the Maritime University of Szczecin conducted by Sylwia Fabiańczyk-Makuch, PhD, has now existed for 16 years. Currently, the ensemble gathers over 90 members; musicians and amateurs, enthusiasts of all kinds of music. From the very beginning, the Choir was a true showcase of the city and the region, spreading the maritime tradition in the country and abroad. Now the group consists of over 80 people and has on its account: hundreds of concerts, over a dozen international tours, several dozen major prizes at prestigious choir festivals in Poland and abroad, five CDs and numerous premieres of contemporary music. The Choir’s repertoire is versatile, ranging from the choral classics to the original arrangements of the most popular contemporary songs and pieces. Talented, young singers are constantly struggling to demythologize the stereotypical image of a choir. They try to adopt a subtle and ‘witty’ choreography and thus make the listener smile once in a while. The Choir’s goal is to achieve a coherent sound, often going beyond the choral tradition showing that music has no limits, and that on stage the most important is unity, harmony and passion.
