PLKHKTA YYPS Mass Choir
Members of the PLK HKTA Yuen Yuen Primary School (Hong Kong) Music Program are passionate about music! We are dedicated to explore music of different genres and we are always striving to improve our technique and showmanship.
This year, the YYPS Junior Choir, Senior Choir and Musical Theater Team joined together to form the YYPS Mass Choir. Alongside our Symphony Orchestra, the Mass Choir "That's Christmas To Me" - arranged by our Artistic Director, Mr. Merak Li. This is a celebration performed by a total of 174 primary school students between age 6 - 12.
Merak Li
Originally a trombonist, Li studied under Greg Cox (Vancouver Symphony Orchestra) and Jeremy Berkman (Vancouver Opera) at University of British Columba, where he received his Bachelor of Music. After discovering his affinity for teaching children, Li returned to Hong Kong and completed his Post Graduate Diploma in Education at Chinese University of Hong Kong. As the Artistic Director of PLK HKTA Yuen Yuen Primary School (Hong Kong), Li experiments with various pedagogy approaches such as the Orff Schulwerk, the Dalcroze Approach, the Kodaly Method, and contemporary approaches like Musical Futures as he continues to build his school-based curriculum. Li is passionate about composing and arranging music specially for his own students.
Li is a qualified presenter for the Australian National Council Orff Schulwerk. He is a frequent guest speaker for the Hong Kong Education Bureau - Arts Curriculum Development Council, the Hong Kong Chinese University PGDE (Music) Program, and the Hong Kong Association of Music Educators. Li is now the chairman of the Hong Kong Po Leung Kuk Affiliated School Committee of Promotion of Education in Music.
