For more than thirty-five years BALSIS Youth Choir (found 1987) in this even has been proving its enduring artistic quality and has gained respect and recognition among choirs in Latvia and abroad. The choir's creative approach to a cappella coral music makes every concerts an event, as evidenced by the 25 international awards it has received. BALSIS has performed Latvian choral music from Europe to China, Australia and the United States. The choir perfors with equal dedication in urban, as well as national concert halls, at international choral festivals and in competitions (such as the Lund Choral Festival in Sweden, 2012; The World Choral Expo, 2015 in Macau, China; the European Grand Prix for Choral singing, 2004 and 2017; and more), and when sharing the stage witj world-renowed ensembles such as The King's Singers (2008) and Voces8 (2022).

The singers unmistakable openness and joy of singing motivates listeners to contribute to good causes. BALSIS has realised countless charity campaigns and social projects with a particular focus on helping children in orphanages and people with special needs (for example, Warm Christmas, Give The World, BALSIS in sign language and other projects).

The energetic and charismatic conductor Ints Teterovskis, who has also served as a chief conducor of the Latvian Song Celebration, has led BALSIS for more than 25 years. Under his leadership, the choir has given about seventy concerts each year and has recorded more than a dozen albums. Teterovskis and the choir regularly encourage new works by composers with a particular focus on the genre of the choral song cycle. BALSIS enjoys engaging in experimental and contemporary projects and also performs at less conventional venues, such as markets, railway stations, gas stations on rivers...

Ints Teterovskis

Ints Teterovskis (1972)- Artistic director of the Youth Choir BALSIS obtained a master's degree in choral conducting (2001) at the Latvian Academy of Music. Trained in baroque music courses in Dartington (Great Britain), as well as in Bremen (Germany) working with a Bach choir and orchestra. Participated in Erik Erikson's choir conducting master classes in Haarlem (Netherlands). He founded and led the Salaspils Youth choir Tiāde (1994-2005), from 2005 to 2009 he was the artistic director of the Jāzeps Vītolas Latvian Academy of Music student mixed choir, he received special awards as the best interpreter of several international competitions; conducted choral music seminars in New York, Basel, Pamplona and masterclasses at the Young Musicians creative camp in Ogre, Latvia, organized the biggest music festivals and concerts in Latvia (Ancient Music Festival, Rīga dimd, Great Music Prize, G.Māler's 8th symphony major performance, General Latvian Song Festival.) He is the chief conductor of Latvian Song Celebration since 2008. He worked on the creation of the implementation plan of the Cultural Strategy of the city of Riga, in early 2010 he led master classes for choirs in Toronto, Canada, as well as for the Swedish Latvian Choir (2013). Ints Teterovskis is assistant to the chief conductor of Riga choirs.
