Female Vocal Ensemble Rosmarin
Japan

Rosmarin, a female vocal ensemble, was formed in 1998 by former members of the Yamagata Prefectural Tsuruoka Kita High School music club. Since it began 27 years ago, Rosmarin sings under the guidance of Mrs. Atsuko Momose, who taught the music club for 34 years and led them to win a gold medal at a national competition. The group is comprised of music-loving members in their teens to their 70’s, within and from outside the prefecture, who practice in between work, child-rearing, and household responsibilities. The rehearsal hall resonates with cheerful conversation and melodious voices, fostering a warm, family-like atmosphere. Rosmarin sings Japanese songs, religious songs, pop songs, and various other genres, and participates in various competitions and concerts at local venues. Rosmarin, meaning rosemary, symbolizes the group's multifaceted nature. Just as rosemary can evoke the delicate beauty of a flower, the mysterious depths of the ocean, or the vibrant colors of a witch's palette, the choir's music reflects their dynamic and wide-ranging spirit.
