vocalconsort initium

vocalconsort initium is a brand-new chamber choir founded in 2015 by two conductors studied choral conducting in Europa, Kota Yanagishima (Saarbrüecken, Germany) and Kaoru Tani (Vienna and Graz, Austria). Every singer of the choir has diverse professional or specialized technique as well as experience as a soloist or an ensemble singer. Based on such capability, vocalconsort initium pursued heretofore various musical direction - from medieval to contemporary, from Europa to Asia. In February 2015, the choir played as debut performance Wolfgang Rihm's "Tristis est anima mea", Hanns Eisler's "Gegen den Krieg" and so on. Since that vocalconsort initium made successful four concerts and in November 2019, their 5th concert is planned as a part of "Hokutopia International Music Festival" in Tokyo.

Kaoru Tani

Kaoru Tani was born in 1987.In 2010, she received a bachelor's degree in vocal music at the Kunitachi College of Music in Tokyo. She further studied choral and orchestral conducting under Erwin Ortner at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna from 2011 to 2014 and continued to study choral conducting under Johannes Prinz at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz and was awarded M.A. in choral conducting in 2017.She is a leading conductor of the vocalconsort initium, Hugo Distler Vokalensemble and Tokyo Bay Youth Choir.

Conductor Kota Yanagishima

Kota Yanagishima (Tokyo/Japan) works as choral conductor regularly with numerous chamber and symphonic choirs around Tokyo e.g. vocalconsort initium, chamber choir vox alius, Chor OBANDES, Yokohama Choral Society and Tokyo Juventus Philharmonic Choir. Kota Yanagishima studied choral conducting at the University of Music Saar, Germany. His teachers are Georg Grün (choral conducting) and Toshiyuki Kamioka (orchestra conducting). In 2015 he was selected as a scholar of the German Music Council's DIRIGENTENFORUM and received ""Bach vocal"" prize by Carus Verlag. There he extended his artistic experience, through conducting several professional choirs e.g. Berlin Radio Choir.
